Great River Friends’ Love Tree scholarship fundraiser reaches 20 years

November 9, 2012

For 20 years, Great River Friends’ Love Tree program has provided an opportunity to recognize friends and family members during the holidays while helping fund scholarships for students pursuing health-care careers.

After Thanksgiving, Love Trees will be decorated at:

  • Great River Clinic, Mediapolis
  • Great River Clinic, Wapello
  • Great River Hospice House
  • Great River Medical Center lobby
  • Great River Klein Center
  • Mercy Plaza lobby

All Love Tree proceeds benefit Great River Friends’ Scholarship Program. Each year, up to $10,000 is awarded to area residents pursuing health-care careers, which include high school seniors and current college students.

The names of those honored or remembered are placed on decorative cards that are displayed on donors’ choices of Love Trees. Keepsake ornaments are included with donations of $25 or more per name. Poinsettia and green finial styles are available. Ornaments are displayed in Great River Gift Shop.

Love Tree donation forms are available near each tree. Donations are accepted by mail and at Great River Gift Shop, which accepts credit cards. For more information or to request a form, please call Great River Health Systems’ Volunteer Services Department at 319-768-3340.

Donors will receive invitations to the Love Tree Celebration Ceremony scheduled at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, in the Mercy Plaza lobby. Donors are invited to celebrate friends and family members through prayer, a special reading of the names, presentation of name cards and ornaments, and refreshments.

Built on a 117-year-old tradition of service, Great River Friends is a community of donors and volunteers who support Great River Health Systems with their gifts of time, talent and treasure.
