Great River Nephrology to Open Aug. 17

July 31, 2009 – On Monday, Aug. 17, Great River Health Systems will open a clinic dedicated to the treatment of kidney diseases and specific cardiovascular conditions. Great River Nephrology will provide a comprehensive range of services for:

  • Acute and chronic kidney disease, including inpatient and outpatient dialysis
  • Anemia of chronic kidney disease
  • Electrolyte and acid/base disorders
  • Heart failure (aqua-phoresis)
  • High blood pressure
  • Kidney stones

Clinic physicians are:

  • Joseph Morris III, D.O. - Board certified in nephrology, Dr. Morris received his medical degree from Pikeville College School of Medicine, Pikeville, Ky., and he completed his residency training at St. John West Shore Hospital, Westlake, Ohio. He also completed a fellowship at University Hospital-Upstate Medical Center, Syracuse, N.Y.
  • John O. Stevens, M.D. - In 2001, Dr. Stevens became the first nephrologist to practice in southeast Iowa. He received his medical degree from the University Nebraska, where he also completed an internal medicine residency. He completed a fellowship in nephrology at the University of Cincinnati. Dr. Stevens also is board certified in nephrology.

Drs. Morris and Stevens have been providing nephrology services at Great River Medicine Specialists, also located in Eastman Plaza. That office will remain open for internal medicine and pulmonology services. The physicians are:

  • Rommel Adajar, M.D., internal medicine
  • John Rashid, M.D., internal medicine
  • Valerie Velho-Denz, M.D., pulmonology

 

Great River Nephrology is in Suite 101 in the Eastman Plaza, 1223 S. Gear Ave., West Burlington, Iowa (next to Great River Medical Center). The telephone number is (319) 768-4380. Office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. New appointments are being accepted; physician referral is required.
