Great River Health Systems Offers Help with Health Insurance Marketplace and Medicaid Enrollment

March 5, 2014

Great River Health Systems’ financial counselors have completed training to become Certified Application Counselors for the Health Insurance Marketplace. They are available by appointment to help Iowans enroll in health coverage. The state-based marketplace gives consumers a single source for comparing options, learning if they can get lower premiums or free coverage, and enrolling in a plan.

The health system has been designated a Champion of Coverage Organization and a Certified Application Counselor Organization by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. It also is a Presumptive Medicaid Organization. With basic information, financial counselors can enroll patients and their families who are likely to be eligible for Medicaid immediately, without waiting for an eligibility determination from the state. The hospital will get paid for the services provided, just as though the patient were already enrolled in Medicaid.

Appointments are available between 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays. Please call 319-768-3625 or toll-free 877-404-4763.

The open enrollment period for the Health Insurance Marketplace ends Monday, March 31. People who do not have health insurance after this date may be subject to a financial penalty. There are some exceptions to this rule and the late-enrollment penalty.

The annual open enrollment period for applying for health insurance or making changes is Nov. 15 to Jan. 15.
