Great River Health Systems disburses Community Endowment Funds

Great River Health Systems’ Community Endowment Foundation recently disbursed $114,024.82 to 21 area organizations. Recipients were selected based on community need and relevance to the foundation’s health-care and health-improvement mission.

In 13 years, the Community Endowment Foundation has provided more than $1.4 million to foster services that may otherwise not be available to the community. It was funded in 1999 by a $1 million grant from the Great River Health Systems Foundation. Since the foundation began, more than 325 applications have received funding.

Organizations and projects that received funding support this year from the Community Endowment Foundation were:

  • Alcohol and Drug Dependency Services of Southeast Iowa, $2,000, nicotine patches for clients
  • Alzheimer’s Association, $3,000, caregiver education and support services
  • Biggsville Ambulance Service, $5,000, automatic external defibrillators (AEDs)
  • Burlington Public Library, $3,000, healthy-living educational materials
  • Burlington Area Community YMCA-YWCA, $1,108, AEDs
  • Community Action of Southeast Iowa, $20,000, Medication Assistance Program
  • Early Childhood Iowa Area Des Moines/Louisa County Council, $4,500, head lice supplies
  • Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois, $2,500, healthy-lifestyle education
  • Hope Haven Development Center, $4,300, client positioning and lifting equipment
  • Iowa Wesleyan College, $10,000, simulation manikins
  • Morning Sun Community Ambulance, $8,514.69, bariatric cot
  • North Henderson County/Oquawka Ambulance, $13,200, power cot
  • Prevent Child Abuse Iowa-Louisa County Council, $4,000, child-safety equipment
  • Quad-City Helicopter EMS/Med-Force, $4,323.75, helipad warning signs
  • Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Des Moines County, $4,000, transportation to medical appointments
  • Southeast Iowa Regional Airport Authority, $1,600, AED
  • Special Needs Foundation of Des Moines County, $7,500, durable medical equipment
  • The Nest of Des Moines County, $4,000, health and safety items for babies
  • Wapello Community Ambulance, $2,978.38, laryngoscopes
  • Young House Family Services, $3,500, family health and hygiene kits
  • YWCA Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Program, $5,000, health services for clients
