High-school students can explore careers at Great River Health Systems

February 8, 2012

Every year, Great River Health Systems offers Medical Explorers, a series of programs that allows high-school students to take in-depth looks at health careers. The first meeting is scheduled from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, in the Maple Room on the lower level of Great River Medical Center, 1221 S. Gear Ave., West Burlington. Parents are encouraged to attend the kickoff.

Medical Explorers will continue meeting every Thursday through the end of April. Participation is limited, so students should register at the first meeting. The fee is $10.

Health-care careers are challenging and rewarding. Jobs in demand include diagnostic medical sonographers, medical billing and coding specialists, medical laboratory technologists, nurses, pharmacy technologists, occupational and physical therapy assistants, physicians, radiologic technologists and respiratory therapists. Many of these areas will be explored during the 10-week program.

To register, please call Great River Health Systems’ Corporate Education Department at 319-768-4070.
