Great River Health Systems offers new volunteer experience for teens

February 8, 2012

Students who are interested in health careers and volunteering are invited to apply for Great River Health System’s Junior “Volunteen” program. An educational component has been added to introduce teens to clinical and nonclinical departments and jobs. Besides volunteering, participants can attend weekly lunch-and-learn sessions.

Teens must be at least 14 years old by Friday, June 1. The 2012 program is scheduled from Monday, June 11 through Friday, Aug. 3. Junior Volunteens must participate in the orientation session Thursday, June 7. They also must plan to serve one four-hour shift per week for at least seven weeks.

Because the Junior Volunteen program has changed, students who want to earn a large number of volunteer hours should consider opportunities besides the Junior Volunteen program.

Teens must complete an application to be considered. Other requirements include:

  • Background check
  • Group interview
  • Minimum 2.8 grade point average
  • Pledge of confidentiality
  • TB test and health assessment
  • Written references

The deadline for applications is Saturday, April 1. For more information or an application, please call Great River Health Systems’ Volunteer Services at 319-768-3340. Applications also are available HERE.
