Hensley Named Emergency Nurse of the Year

November 6, 2002 – Great River Medical Center nurse Julie Hensley, R.N., has been named Emergency Nurse of the Year by the Iowa Emergency Nurses Association State Council. The award is presented annually to an emergency nurse who has shown exceptional commitment to emergency nursing and the Emergency Nurses Association.

Hensley is president of the Cedar Valley Chapter of the ENA, the largest of Iowa’s five chapters. She is set to become president-elect of the state organization in 2003, and president the following year. She has a bachelor of science in nursing degree, and is a certified emergency nurse, trauma nurse core curriculum instructor and registered emergency medical technician-paramedic specialist. Besides working in the hospital’s Emergency Department, she is a hospitalwide nursing supervisor.

Hensley is credited for revitalizing the Cedar Valley Chapter and initiating new educational opportunities and projects for its members. In September, she represented the state as an alternate delegate at the Emergency Nurses Association General Assembly in New Orleans.

The ENA is an international organization that supports emergency nursing through advocacy, expertise, innovation and leadership. Its members include staff nurses; pediatric, trauma and flight nurses; clinical nurse specialists; nurse practitioners; nurse managers; administrators; nursing educators and student nurses.
