Imagine Campaign Announces Community-Betterment Ideas; Seeks Public’s Involvement
December 5, 2011 –
The Imagine Campaign Steering Committee has announced the top five ideas submitted by area residents to make Des Moines County and the greater Burlington area a better place to live, work and play.
The five ideas are:
- Become Iowa’s healthiest community
- Begin programs to ensure that every young person has the opportunity to succeed
- Create an indoor recreational facility to enhance community needs and to attract more convention and tourism activity
- Improve the appearance and attractiveness of Greater Burlington
- Increase the use of the riverfront as the community’s No. 1 geographic asset
“These top five ideas were selected because of their potential to have broad support and long-lasting influence to move Des Moines County and the greater Burlington area forward,” said Steering Committee Chairman Matt Shinn, market president for southeast Iowa, Two Rivers Bank and Trust. “Several projects could be developed to meet each idea’s objective, and some of these projects may be designed to enhance or strengthen existing services rather than creating something new.”
The Imagine Campaign began in May 2011 when the Steering Committee invited everyone who lives, works, visits and studies in Des Moines County and the greater Burlington area to submit ideas for making the area a better place to live, work and play. The campaign received more than 1,800 ideas. Using a volunteer selection committee and additional public participation, the campaign narrowed the ideas to 30. The Steering Committee selected the top five.
“Our job now is to invite community members and organizations to collaborate, adopt projects and start accomplishing these ideas,” said Steering Committee Member Dennis Hinkle, president, Burlington Area Partnership. “Our intent is to have all five ideas under way and some completed by the end of 2016.”
The Steering Committee will form a community volunteer task force for each of the five areas. Anyone interested in serving on a task force may contact Matt Shinn at 319-753-9163, or email@example.com. For more information about the Imagine Campaign, visit www.ImagineOurFuture.net.
