Great River Friends Donates Money, Announces Scholarship Recipients

At its annual meeting Thursday, April 14, Great River Friends awarded $10,000 in scholarships and donated $43,582.48 to Great River Health Systems.

Ten area high-school seniors who will begin studying health-care careers received $1,000 scholarships. They are:

  • Cody Carson, Carthage, Ill., Illini West High School, physician
  • Jaclyn Hoaglin, Hillsboro, Iowa, Harmony High School, nursing
  • Amber Jackson, New London, Iowa, New London High School, nurse practitioner
  • Jacob LaFayette, Wapello, Wapello High School, physical therapy
  • Ashley Lekander, Burlington, Burlington Community High School, nursing
  • Courtney Orth, Burlington, Burlington Community High School, ultrasound technology
  • Dylan Pieper, Dallas City, Ill., Illini West High School, physical therapy
  • Jessica Stevens, Burlington, Burlington Community High School, physician
  • Lindsi Tillo, West Burlington, West Burlington High School, physician
  • Sally Weisinger, West Point, Iowa, Ft. Madison High School, physician assistant

The $43,555.61 donation to the health system will be used for:

  • Communication boards for patient rooms in the Acute Care Center, Rehabilitation Unit and Transitional Care Unit
  • Halo® Sleep SacksTM for newborns in the Women and Family Center
  • Patient spa room for Great River Hematology and Oncology
  • Patient-simulation curriculum for continuing staff education
  • Remodeling Great River Gift Shop, Great River Friends’ main source of revenue for donations to the health system
  • Resource and reference materials for the health systems Library
  • Surgical pillows for Day Surgery patients
  • Televisions, DVD players and a surround-sound system for the Klein Center
  • Video camera to enhance physician and volunteer recruitment, continuing education and corporate communication
