Widows/Widowers Invited to Special Workshop Oct. 16
October 5, 2010 –
Great River Hospice is sponsoring a workshop to help widows and widowers cope with the unique feelings and experiences associated with the death of a spouse. Participants will learn skills to help them cope with the significant loss.
Table for One: A Workshop for Widows and Widowers is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, in the Walnut Conference Room on the lower level of Great River Medical Center, 1221 S. Gear Ave., West Burlington.
The program will be presented by Great River Hospice social worker Joan Rodgers and Chaplain Dean Graber. A widow and a widower who have benefited from bereavement services provided by Great River Hospice also will present part of the program.
“Losing a spouse can feel like you have lost half your life,” Rodgers said. “Becoming a widow or widower is something people are never prepared to face. This workshop will provide strategies to successfully move through the grief process.”
The program is free and open to the public, regardless of whether they have used Great River Hospice services. Registration is required. Lunch will be served.
