Great River Pain Clinic Receives National Accreditation
July 8, 2010 –
Great River Pain Clinic recently was accredited by the American Academy of Pain Management. The three-year accreditation recognizes pain-management clinics for meeting the academy's standards of accountability and commitment to continuous quality improvement. Great River Pain Clinic is only the second clinic in Iowa to achieve this accreditation.
A service of Great River Medical Center, Great River Pain Clinic is accredited in the Small Multidisciplinary category, meaning the clinic manages a variety of pain conditions staffed by four or more disciplines all operating in the same organization. The clinic's medical director is neurologist Nidal Alkurdy, M.D.; neurologist Siddharth Kapoor, M.D., also is a member of the clinic's medical staff.
The voluntary accreditation process includes an on-site survey to assure compliance with established peer-reviewed criteria in administrative, personnel and clinical operations. To receive certification, a pain-management clinic must:
- Have a commitment to quality improvement through a continuous process of evaluating services
- Maintain policies and procedures that show accountability and distinct organizational practices
- Provide staff, patients and family members with proper education about pain management
- Show that patients consistently receive proper pain assessment and management
