Great River Health Systems Supports High-school Athletics
October 5, 2009 –
Two community clinics gave local school districts a double benefit this past summer: They offered student athletic physicals at a reduced price, then donated half the proceeds to the athletic departments at schools the students attend.
The Mediapolis Clinic and Wapello Clinic participated in the program. They are part of Great River Health Systems.
Altogether, 197 students received physicals, and Great River Health Systems, in turn, donated more than $2,900 to these school districts:
- L and M
- Mediapolis
- New London
- Notre Dame
- Wapello
- Winfield
Certified physician assistants and a physician conducted the physicals and certified athletic trainers from Great River Center for Rehab and Clinics conducted body orthopedic screenings, which included strength, range-of-motion and ligament testing. If the health professionals found weaknesses in any of these areas, such as tight hamstrings, the students received instructions for exercises that could help prevent sports injuries.
