Team BEAST to Hold First Youth Triathlon June 28

Team BEAST (Burlington Endurance Athlete Sports Team) has scheduled its first youth triathlon to begin at 9 a.m. Sunday, June 28, in Dankwardt Park, 2700 S. Main St., Burlington, Iowa. Youth ages 7 to 14 may participate.

Race distances vary by age group:

7 to 8               50 yards           1 ½ miles          ¼ mile

9 to 11             100 yards         2 miles              ½ mile

12 to 14           200 yards         3 miles              1 mile

Team                100 yards         2 miles              ½ mile

The race begins in an outdoor pool in Dankwardt Park. Certified lifeguards will be in the pool. The bike course is out and back, mostly in Dankwardt and Crapo parks. Helmets are required. The run is on sidewalks, streets and grass.

Race sponsors are Great River Medical Center, Carlos O'Kelly's Mexican Café, Clear Falls Bottled Water and Conditioning, The Coca-Cola Company, The Hawk Eye, Lance Inc., The Mix 107.3 and Wal-Mart Supercenter.
