Great River Medical Center Helps Patients, Families and Friends Stay Connected with CarePages
September 11, 2008 – Great River Medical Center is helping patients, families and friends stay connected with CarePages, an online service for sharing the challenges, hopes and triumphs of anyone facing a life-changing health event. It is provided by Great River Friends.
Through free, personalized CarePages Web sites, patients and caregivers share their stories, post photos, and update friends and family instantly. In turn, people can send messages of support and encouragement. CarePages also offers a variety of resources to support its mission of ensuring that no one goes through a health challenge alone. It was founded in 2000 by a couple who struggled to keep family and friends informed about the health of their baby, who was born with a heart defect.
Studies show that communication and emotional support contribute to better patient experiences and outcomes.
“At Great River Medical Center, we provide more than medical care for our patients,” said Mark Richardson, president and CEO. “CarePages helps in our goal to also provide emotional and spiritual care to patients and their families. It’s easy to give and receive meaningful messages.”
CarePages also makes recognizing hospital staff for exceptional care easy. Comments are sent directly to department directors.
A link to CarePages is on Great River Medical Center’s Web site, www.greatrivermedical.org. With step-by-step instructions, patients and families can create their own pages. CarePages are personal and private. The service complies with patient privacy regulations, and registration and passwords are required for viewing.
“Great River Medical Center recognizes that communication and personal interactions can transform health challenges into more positive experiences for all participants,” said Eric Langshur, CEO, CarePages, Inc. “CarePages has helped millions of patients connect on a deeper level with their families and friends as well as others in similar situations, and we are proud to welcome Great River Medical Center into the CarePages community.”
