Great River Medical Center Offers Free Pulmonary Function Screenings
October 12, 2007 – Staff members from Great River Medical Center’s Respiratory Care Services will provide free pulmonary function screenings to the public from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, in the lobby of the Mercy Plaza, 1225 S. Gear Ave., West Burlington.
The pulmonary function screening provides a preliminary evaluation of lung function. The screening measures air volumes in the lungs, and determines how well the lungs are functioning mechanically and how well air moves in and out of the lungs. The screening can help diagnose obstructive lung disease – such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, asthma and chronic bronchitis – and restrictive lung disease, including sarcoidosis and asbestosis.
The screening takes about 5 to 7 minutes to complete. Reservations are not required. For more information, please call Respiratory Care Services at (319) 768-3150.
