Great River Health Systems Names Excellence Award Winners

July 5, 2007 – Great River Health Systems recently presented Excellence in Practice Awards to five employees who have demonstrated exemplary practice or performed specific deeds that exceed expectations to help patients, patientsí family members, community, co-workers and/or their professions. A $1,000 award was given in each category. Two finalists in each category received $200 awards.

The winners and finalists were:

Clinical Excellence Award
Recognizes a clinician who provides outstanding clinical patient care daily
Winner: Scott Thompson, Pharm.D., Pharmacy
Finalists: Janice Sharar, CNA, Home Health Care and Hospice, and Kay Stafford, CNA, Psychiatric Care Unit

Community Excellence Award
Recognizes an employee for voluntary contributions of time and effort to the community
Winner: George Van Hagen, PTA, Rehabilitation Services
Finalists: Sue Carnes, Material Management, and Jeff Taeger, PT, Rehabilitation Services

Leadership Excellence Award
Recognizes someone who is making a difference and is a true leader
Winner: Carolyn Stiefel, RN, Employee Health
Finalists: Andrea Jefferson, RD, LD, Nutrition Services, and Donna Wirt, RN, M.S.N., Heart and Vascular Center

Nursing Excellence Award
Recognizes a nurse who provides outstanding direct patient care daily
Winner: Joyce Stover, R., B.S.N., Home Health Care and Hospice
Finalists: Lauri Lillie, RN, Postanesthesia Care Unit, and Sue Runnells, RN, Inpatient Dialysis

Service Excellence Award
Recognizes an employee who does not provide direct patient care but plays an integral role in a health-system service
Winner: Barb Garcia, RN, Corporate Education
Finalists: Janelle McGuire, RN, Home Health Care and Hospice, and Sheila Thompson, Nutrition Services
