Great River Friends Holds Membership Drive; Group Combines Auxiliary and Volunteers

January 23, 2007 – Great River Friends is a community of donors and volunteers who support Great River Medical Center with their gifts of time, talent and treasure. It combines auxiliary members and volunteers, who share the same purpose:
• Encourage the community’s support of the hospital
• Provide financial support for hospital services
• Provide scholarships to students pursuing careers in health care
• Recruit and use volunteers that help patients, Klein Center elders, families and employees

Great River Friends’ membership drive is under way. Friends may donate their time, money or both to help support and improve hospital services. Through dues and fund-raising, Great River Friends disbursed $49,149 in 2006, including $10,000 in scholarships. It also funded these projects:
• Corporate Education—Arterial/venous training arm
• Hospice house—Escrow account
• Kid Zone Child Care Center—Outdoor play equipment
• Spiritual Care—Spiritual Care television channel, holiday poinsettias
• Surgical Services—Furniture/bed pusher
• Transitional Care Unit—VCR/DVD players, DVDs, activity materials
• Volunteer Services—Computer software, Humor Cart materials
• Women and Family Center—Commercial high chairs ,VCR/DVD players
