Great River Health Systems Recognized as One of America’s Healthiest Employers

September 21, 2005 – Great River Health Systems has been recognized again for excellence in worksite health promotion by receiving The Wellness Council of Iowa’s Silver Well Workplace Award. Established in 1991, the award recognizes companies that meet strict standards for improving employee health. Great River Health Systems received the bronze Well Workplace Award in 2001 and 2004.

Companies that apply for Well Workplace Award recognition participate in a comprehensive application process and are measured against national standards set by the Wellness Councils of America.

“The Well Workplace process establishes criteria to measure the success of corporate health promotion programs,” said Jamie Dengler, employee wellness supervisor, Great River Health Systems. “By following the standards set forth in the Well Workplace criteria, we can develop programs that are much more than activity-based initiatives.”

The Well Workplace Award recognizes an organization for its commitment to the health and well-being of its employees. Standards include:

• Effective programs to increase awareness, educate and encourage behavior change in employees
• Management commitment for the program
• Supportive policies
• Written annual operating plan specific to health promotion

The Wellness Council of Iowa is an affiliate of the Wellness Councils of America, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to building healthier workplaces nationwide. More than 100 Iowa employers are members of the Wellness Council, representing nearly 80,000 employees.
