GRMC Sleep Disorders Center Staff Accredited

September 8, 2004 – Two members of Great River Medical Center’s Sleep Disorders Center team recently passed examinations offered by professional health-care organizations.

Melanie McAlister received the registered polysomnographic technologist designation from the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists. Polysomnography is the study of sleep disorders such as sleep apnea, insomnia and narcolepsy.

“We now have four people who have achieved this credential,” said Sleep Disorders Center Supervisor Cheryl Robben. “This is exceptional, considering that the pass rate for this examination is less than 50 percent.”

Registered polysomnographic technologist Brian Bauer recently became a registered electroencephalographic technologist. Electroencephalography records electrical activity in the brain to help physicians diagnose a variety of neurological problems, ranging from headaches and dizziness to seizure disorders, stroke and degenerative brain disease.

Great River Medical Center’s Sleep Disorders Center is accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. For more information, please call the center at (319) 768-4325.
