Health Fitness
The Health Fitness Program helps you maintain a healthy lifestyle through exercise and education. As a participant, you will have a fitness specialist personalize your exercise program and show you how to use each piece of equipment in our gym. This program requires a health history evaluation and fitness assessment. A physician’s referral may be required. The Center for Rehabilitation offers several different classes and programs designed to help you develop and maintain a healthier lifestyle. Programs include:
- Aerobics classes – Please call for classes and times.
- Aquatics program – Water is a fun way to achieve a total-body workout while allowing you to relieve stress on your joints. It is not necessary to know how to swim to participate in these classes. The water temperatures of the two pools are 90 to 92 degrees F and 84 to 86 degrees F respectively. Your physician’s permission and a signed waiver are required. Please call the Center for Rehabilitation to set up an appointment for an assessment.
- Athletic training – Our athletic training staff can assess your sports injury and advise you regarding your care. Certified athletic trainers provide coverage of athletic events at area high schools and the local community college. Coverage also is provided for annual community sport events.
- Comprehensive stress management – Stress is a fact of life, but it needn’t be a way of life. Excessive stress and negative stress have been associated with many physical ailments such as tension headaches, chronic illness, fatigue and heart attacks. Stress can be controlled. In this one-on-one session with a wellness trainer, we will help you identify your stressors and learn relaxation techniques, time-management skills and self-esteem/assertiveness skills.
- Gentle tai chi – This class will help increase balance, coordination, muscle awareness, range of motion and flexibility through gentle, soft, rounded movements performed slowly and with precision.
- Gentle yoga – This program offers a safe environment for stretching and strengthening exercises. No yoga experience is needed to take this class. Yoga will help with balance, coordination, relaxation and flexibility.
- Personal training – One-on-one training sessions are available with a certified professional. A free consultation is offered with the purchase of a session package.
- Smokeless: Smoking-cessation program – This smoking-cessation program is a three-step positive approach to breaking the smoking habit. This system curbs withdrawal discomfort and irritability while focusing on behavior modification.
- Therapeutic massage – Therapeutic massage involves the manipulation of the body’s soft tissue to help prevent and alleviate pain, discomfort, muscle spasms and stress, and promote health and fitness. Our massage therapist is licensed in the State of Iowa.
