Bone Densitometry

Doctor describing bone x-ray to a patientA bone-densitometry test is important in helping your physician determine the health of your bones and the risk for fracture. This quick, painless test measures your bone-mineral density (BMD) with the use of low-dose X-rays. The resulting BMD measurement will be compared to a reference group similar to you in age, weight, sex and ethnic background.

After the test is completed, a radiologist (a physician who specializes in reading X-rays) will look at the images and send a written report to your physician. Your physician will then discuss the results with you.
